It is often said that there is "no scientific evidence" that homeopathy works- this is definitely not the case! Admittedly more research is needed, but there are already high quality randomised clinical trails demonstrating that homeopathy is clinically effective beyond placebo example- in the treatment of hayfever and diarrhoea.

A service evaluation at Bristol Homeopathic Hospital recorded the outcome of homeopathic treatment in over 6,500 consecutive patients during a 6 year period, and found that 70 % reported an improvement in their health!

In Germany, a health insurance company commissioned a study to help them determine whether the y should continue to cover homeopathic treatment. This study found that homeopathic treatment was more effective than conventional treatment for some chronic conditions commonly seen in general practice such as:

  • headache
  • low back pain
  • depression
  • insomnia
  • sinusitis

and in children:

  • atopic dermatitis
  • allergic rhinitis
  • asthma

A 500-patient survey at the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital showed that many patients were able to reduce or stop conventional treatmentfollowing homeopathy, including 72 % of patients with skin symptoms.

A study involving 3,981 patients looked at the long term outlook for patients receiving homeopathic treatment in 103 German and Swiss primary care practices. The results showed that treatment by a homeopath led to marked and sustained improvements both in the severity of the disease and in the quality of life.

By THE END OF 2009, 142 RCT`s of homeopathy had been published in peer-reviewed journals. In terms of statistically significant results, 74 out of these trials were able to draw firm conclusions, and 63 of these were positive. (patients given a homeopathic medicine improved significantly more than the control group who were given an inactive placebo or established conventional treatment)
